Our Volunteers
Become a Volunteer
Do you have a boat, a jet ski, a kayak or a paddle board? If you do and you want to spend the morning on a beautiful mountain lake, then we need you. We will reimburse motorized boat and jet ski owners for their fuel and launch expenses, if requested. We also need volunteers to support finish line set up the evening before the event, swimmer check in and gathering competitor’s bag on the beach at the start of the race, various tasks at the finish on race day and hospitality to prepare and distribute snacks and drinks to tired swimmers.

Race Director
The race director is responsible for overall operation of the event. She recruits volunteer coordinators, plans all aspects of the event including organizing and scheduling planning meetings securing on site venues and ensuring that volunteer coordinators’ assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner. She secures critical infrastructure like event timing and coordinating with our entry management vendor, Club Assistant.

Referee
Steve Lintz
The Referee is certified by US Masters Swimming and shall have authority over all officials, instruct & assign officials, enforce all applicable rules, decide all questions related to the conduct of the swim, and adjudicate protests.
Safety Director
The safety director is certified by US Masters Swimming and is responsible for completing and complying with the approved safety plan, including (1) checking that the entire course, especially the start and finish areas, are safe and free of obstructions, (2) coordinating with the kayak and motorized boat coordinators to ensure that sufficient suitable watercraft, equipment, and safety staff are available during the swim, and (3) briefing and assigning safety staff. If necessary the safety director shall advise the referee to modify the manner in which the swim is conducted or change the course and/or distance.
Kayak Coordinator
The kayak coordinator is responsible for recruiting kayak and paddle board volunteers, for providing safety instructions to volunteers and for making task assignments on race day.
Motorized Boat Coordinator
The motorized boat coordinator is responsible for recruiting volunteers, for providing safety instructions to volunteers and for making task assignments on race day.
Hospitality Coordinator

The hospitality coordinator is responsible for recruiting hospitality volunteers, for purchase of food and drinks for swimmers, for ensuring delivery of food and drinks to race finish area and for making task assignments on race day.
Finish Line Management
The finish line is set up the night before the race. It involves inflating the finish line arch and setting up the chute to funnel swimmers into the finish area. Steve also provides signs for check-in and finish areas, assists with arranging for porta potties and assists with safety.

Monica is responsible for designing the event logo and T-shirt graphics.
First Aide

Vibeth and Alex are responsible for providing first aide to swimmers.
Beer

Sherry McCrillis
Rich and Wendy are responsible for solicitating beer donations from SNM team members.
Hot Water
Cherry Rensch
Cherry is responsible for ensuring there’s adequate hot water for tea, coffee and hot chocolate for cold swimmers. Burner and propane donated by Jim Lawrie.
Lakeridge Swim Team Coordinator
Sharon Weiss
Sharon is essential for coordinating with the Lakeridge Swim Team parents and swimmers to provide many behind the scenes activities, before during and after the event. This event couldn’t happen without Sharon’s assistance and the assistance of the great people of Lakeridge.
Photographer
Volunteer NEEDED
Responsible for photographing all aspects of the event with the principal purpose of providing material for website updates and the DLS Facebook page.
Web master
The web master is responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of the DLS website.
